To Whom It May Concern:
I have been working on my G4 but for some reason the date shows up as 1956, and now it wont even start-up no sound and no lights.
Can you please advise?
Thanks for your time.

golly, time warp back to before there were computers? Have you tried the reset button?

The bad date could simply be that no one has bothered to set it properly. However, if dates start going bad all of the sudden. and the clock refuses to hold it's settings, then it's a symptom of a bad battery or bad PRAM. Since hte machine will not startup at all anymore, chances are your internal battery has died. Take the Mac to your local authorized Apple center.

Yes indeed the battery was dead, I also upgraded to OS 9.2.1 seems good so far.
