Cannot clear internet history

I have a dell computer, windows xp. When I click on tools then clear history, cookies and so on and hit apply and okay - I go back to check if history is deleted and it is still there. Can you help me?

just go to your history folder and delete your history.

I go into My Computer, (C:), Windows Folder, there is the temporary internet folder and the history folder - I used to do it this way but I can't remember how, I know I don't delete the whole folder. How do I do this? Sorry, confused. Thanks

I know I don't want to delete the History Folder but just its contents. I click on History and History.IES folder comes up - I click on it, then index DAT file comes up and I can't open that. Am I accessing in the wrong place?

Also my computer won't let me access two screens. I don't know how to explain but if I minimize this page and then try to go to a brand new page (start page) it won't let me - it kicks me off this page and goes to the new page. It won't let me keep two pages at once - it used to. Any suggestions?
