i have set up a wireless network utilizing my desktop and laptop comps. desktop (on Win98SE) is lan'd into router, laptop (on Win2K) has a pcmcia w/l card. both comps communicate with a w/l print server. desktop works fine. laptop has begun to give problem. when i try to ping to print server fom laptop, i get the following message in the command prompt: " 'ping' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
when i try ipconfig in command prompt, the cmd window appears and disappears too fast to see what it says.
the laptop used to be able to 'ping' before, now it does not.
any advice, ideas, help??? :(

you can try typing in winipconfig that should work but if it doesn't just type in command, and then type ipconfig in the command box and it will stay.
as for ping not working first check your windows folder for ping.exe If it ain't there then thats your problem. I'm not sure where you can get another copy of ping from if this is your problem. Sorry :(
however, if ping is there then Type PATH at a command prompt - if C:\Windows (or Winnt)\System32 is not in the path then:
using notepad open up autoexec.bat and add the following line:
PATH=C:\winnt;c:\winnt\system32;c:\windows;c:\wind ows\command
save then reboot and try again.

looked up my autoexec.bat file and found that all it had was REM...don't now how or why it should have been so.
anyway, I entered the path as you suggested (modified for WINNT directory id); verified that ping.exe existed in the WINNT\system32 directory and re-booted.
everything worked like a charm!
many thanks for your help!
