Use your favorite image program to open the bmp, then just choose Save As and choose jpeg.

Some programs may need you to choose File>Export>
but usually it can be done via Save As

Thanks, I tried the save as option, so it has to be the other one. Sorry about the lack of brain cells :dizzy:

I am using Adobe photoshop 7. I can save it in mspaint but that doesn't allow me to save my image for the web so easily.
Maybe you can help me finish off the rest of my problem. I want to post an image of my screenshot onto a forum so they can see it. I have put the screenshot into its own folder on my comp and I am using imageshack to host it. I can find my file with imageshack but what do I do then in order to post it in the forum and how do I get rid of the background of my screenshot so they only see the relevant information?
Thanks for the help

This is for 5.5, but 7 should be similar.
Open a new file in Photoshop.
Then take the screenshot and paste it into the new file.
To remove the unwanted parts you need to crop the image.
Click and hold down the cursor on the Marquee tool icon and then choose the Crop tool.
Then click and drag over the area of the image you want to keep.
Double click to crop the image.
To save the image as a jpeg then goto File>Save for Web
In the dialogue that appears choose JPEG from the dropdown.
Alternatively, goto Layer>Flatten Image.
You can now use Save As to save the file as a JPEG.

i've never used imageshack, but I assume that they have a file upload section when you log in so that you can upload the image???

Thanks for the help so far degsy. Imageshack does have an upload section and then I have to copy the url. Do I then have to open my user cp and paste it in my sig? Also I have a vague memory of having to put tags on it but not sure about that.

If you have uploaded your image then you just need to post the link or you can use vB Codes to have it show in the post
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode
(or use the Image Insert icon in the Post Options)
