W98SE over W98 ?
An old god friend (nice female) came with her PC under her arm to visit me.
Something inside went wrong??!!! Please help!! By checking I found a couple of function not working anymore. Then she addmitted, she - or rather her PC - had a virus, 3 weeks ago, and someone from her office tried to fix it. "The disk please". "What disk?" "You run W98 and I need that disk". To cut a long long story short, W98 is corrupted and there is no disk. Question: Can I over-install a W98SE over W98? Or must W98 be uninstalled and then W98SE installed? Will she loose then at an installation of W98SE all e-mail addresses and ISP connection etc. ? Must MS Office be re-installed? I know if you over- install W98 over W98 or W98SE over W98SE, you don't loose anything. Please advise, Thanks nopfusch |

boot to safe mode command prompt, at the prompt type scanrg /restore....select a date prior tothis event, run it, then restart.
You might try to boot to safe mode, which may prompt you for your original disc. You cannot repar 98 with SE disc, unless it is the upgrade disc used in that machine (rare) otherwise you need the 98 idsc that came with it, and a boot floppy (usually) |

you should be able to upgrade win98 with win98se without losing your installed programs and email. However there is always a possibliity that something can go wrong so you should backup anything you cannot afford to lose.
