Hi
In my old Outlook Express I remember I could filter messages b4 I downloaded them from the server.
I would like to do this with my current mail app which is MS Outlook 2002. When I look around the rules wizard there are only filtering options after the message has been received/downloaded.
Does anybody know of a way to do this. Or know of an add-on that will do this.
Thanks
Milan

are you sure it was outlook express that did this and not your isp?
Anyway, mailwasher (http://www.mailwasher.net/) will do what you want. There is a free version. You can use it between your server and outlook. I use it and it has cut my spam to almost nothing.

Yes it was Outlook Express - based on certain criteria to match you could elect to Not download from server etc.
Thanks for the advise but mailwasher is still another program rather that an add-on filter for Outlook. To explain further...
1. My ISP already filters SPAM for me, but all it does is add ***** SPAM ***** to the subject line of the message. I have to filter it and deal with it from there.
2. Rather than download the message and deal with it locally. If I could tell Outlook to NOT download any messages with ***** SPAM ***** in the subject line that would leave SPAM on my mail server for future deletion. And clean email being delivered.
3. If a legitimate message gets caught - I log onto my web interface to my email account and retrieve it from there.
So I don't really need a Spam filter, that job's been done. I just need some more rule flexibility.

mailwasher will delete the email at the server where you do not have to download. But that is not what you want which I can understand.
Who is your isp?

Looks like they have webmail, what you should be able to do is to access your email account via webmail and you should be able to setup a rule there to auto delete any messages that says spam. This way it will already be deleted when you use your outlook and you will not have to worry about downloading it.

Yeah, I can setup rules to move or delete messages. But that's not a backend proccess - I have to be logged into webmail for those rules to be performed. So I'm still stuck in a situation where I have to intervene to get the job done.

I'm using a program called Spamhilator (http://www.spamihilator.com/) which sits between OE and the server and filters in the background.

Hey Steven
What a cool program! Has many more features than what I needed but it does include the don't download from server option which is great.
Thankyou very much.
