16 colors

i can't get more than 16 colors, i tried to update the driver and it says windows is using the best driver for the adapter.

Kuzzzz,
You will have to change the settings for both your Video Adapter and Monitor.

i hooked the computer to a different monitor with the proper drivers for that monitor installed and i can still only get 16 colors. with this monitor i've always been able to get 16 and 24 bit. the monitor was getting 16 bit when hooked up to a different pc.

i went in and changed the adapter settings and changed the setting to 16bit (its now listed) and it said it had to reboot so i clicked ok. after it rebooted it changed back to 16 colors so i changed it back to 16bit rebooted and it changed back to 16 colors again. the driver for the monitor is the right driver. this is a compaq presarioMV500-128ram-AuthenticAMD-K6(tm) 3DProssessor 10Gig HD. this really has me baffled.

Did you try d/loading and installing the most recent drivers available for the video adapter?

i thought of that but if you look at the post today you'll see my post "modem probablems" i'll have to get the modem up and running first. i get the message: cannot read port name from registry" when i try and open it.
