My friend is at college and most of her classes require online research and other junk. She has a lap top with Win 98 on it, and she would like to connect it to the Internet so that she can do all the work from her dorm room. She already purchased the Ethernet cables and has it physically connected. The hard part is that no one knows how to set a 98 up on the network. She has access to a Windows XP computer that she was going to copy all the info to her 98. The IP was automatic, and so was the DNS. So she selected automatic IP detection on hers. Then she went to check automatic DNS detection, but there was none!!!! Does anyone know how to detect the DNS server address that the XP is using or know how to make the 98 automatically detect it? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jeff

Tell your friend to contact her ISP who will give her the DNS information.
