Ok, obviously, I'm using Windows 95. Anyways,Everytime I start it up, it shuts down right after the background and icons appear. On another website, everyone told me to go into safe mode and look at the hardware section. When I went to hardware files, it said a problem is being cause by an unknown item on the config.sys list. Well, I search and try to look at config.sys, but something comes up said CCDialer not found. What am I supposed to do now? Also, something strange I noticed whenever the computer is starting, next to the hard drive is has a zero as opposed to the normal number. I know what I may be saying may not be descriptive enough, but any help would be appreciated.

Hi KMD
Welcome to CTH.
OK, start your computer in safe mode, open notepad, open config.sys and delete any line that refers to that dialer. Save the file and restart the computer and come back with details, (word for word) with any error messages received. BF

Well, I went to config.sys like you said and it didn't say anything about the ccdialer. But I've figured out why it keep saying that about the CCDialer. For some reason, that has been set as the default program to open text files with. How can I change this? I know that is a pretty stupid question. but I can't figure it out. Also, when yo usay you want to list of errors word for word, you mean what it says under hardware on the control panel right?

Hi KDM
Open windows explorer go to tools/folder options/file types scroll to text file click edit and change to Notpad.
Now the above steps are from memory as I don't have a Win95 machine in front of me but if there are any errors in my description that you can't find your way around, please come back with details and someone with a Win95 machine will take it from there. BF

Ok, I tink I have all the information you need, and maybe more. Sorry it has taken so long. Anyhow, down to business. I opened config.sys and it lists the two following files:
Device= C:Windows\HIMEM.sys
Device= C:Windows\EMM386.EXE Noems
When I go to HIMEM.sys, it says the following (very lengthy)
Shadow RAM disabled
WARNING:Shadow RAM disable not supported on this system
WARNING: Shadow RAM is in use and can't be disabled
ERROR:HIMEM.sys requires MS-DOS 3.00 or higher (? I have 3.00 ?)
ERROR:An extended memory manager is already installed
ERROR: HIMEM.sys requires an 80x86 base machine
ERROR: No available extended memory was found
ERROR: Unable to control A20 line
ERROR: VDisk memory allocator already installed
XMS Driver not installed
WARNING:The High Memory Area (HMA) is unavailable
WARNING: The A20 line was already enabled
Warning Invailid parameter ignored
64k HMA is available
HIMEM is tesing extended memory.......done
ERROR: HIMEM.sys has detected unreliable XMS memory at address..........To continue starting your computer, press enter
That's it on the HIMEM.sys. When U go to EMM386, it simply says the following:
Expanded memory services unavailable
EMM386 Active
That's all I know to post here for now, hopefully that'll be everything you need to help me out. Also, I appreciate what you've done so far.
