View Full Version : New Members Greetings

I've noticed that sometimes new members don't receive any form of greeting or anything that might make them feel welcome, when they make their first post.
A site like this needs a good pool of members, and as the old saying goes, "First impressions count".
What do you think of the idea of adding a first line like, "Welcome to CTH." or whatever, when we reply to a member who has just made their first post? BF

I know I try to always greet new members with a "Hi, so & so welcome to the community or welcome to CTH.
Could you give us some examples?

I think most of us "regulars" who post here, welcome a first time poster, if they remember. :)

I think Lufbra summed it up with his "I think most of us regulars who post here, welcome a first time poster, if they remember." I have forgotten on the odd occasion, and it is this oversight on my part which caused me to take a look at other posts.
I think we all have to work harder at this, one forgotten welcome, is a 100% miss as far as the new poster who didn't receive it goes. And if they don't come back it is 100% loss of that potential member, to us. BF

Well, BigFred, since this is something that you are "onto", I think it's only right that you should also make comments about the folks who come here for help, get the help they needed, then never reply with a "thank you", or saying what help worked for them. :)

I didn't mean for you to single out anyone in particular, anyway I agree also with Dave we as staff members as well as are regular members always try to welcome any new members that join up. Sometimes it might get overlooked but it's not intentional, but Dave is right sometimes people come here and can't even be bothered to post back if it helped them or not, or even a thanks! Were not perfect but we do try to do our best to make someone feel welcome. ;)

Actually Dave, most of our members are terrific in giving feedback. I was just thinking about this the other day. It's very rarely that someone who has been helped here doesnt post feedback when asked. I think the trick is to ask for feedback, some newer members may not realise that it helps us and others to know what worked and what didnt. :)

I hear you, AnnMarie, so lets just say that comparing those who don't reply with thanks or owt, are pretty much on a par with those of us who overlook saying a welcome. :)
