My son just purchased a game called Star Wars Jedi Knights II Jedi Oucast. When he tries to play the game he gets this message GLW_StartOpen GL files could not load opengl subsystem.

I did a search of this site and also a google and tried a couple of ideas that didn't work. The things I tried were to update the graphics card driver, which didn't help and to go into win.ini and change the DVA=o to semi-colon DVA=o, which didn't exist in the list in win.ini. Another suggestion was to reinstall directx9, but when I downloaded it, I got a box asking me to type the location where I wanted the extracted files to go. I have no idea where to put them, or if this will help my problem at all.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Editing to add the following: I also downloaded a patch from LucasArts that didn't work. When I searched in my files and folders I apparently have a file called opengl32.dll which is a file application.

The box asking you what to do with direct x 9 is where you want to extract what you just downloaded. select the desktop and install the drivers from the .exe . Its possible your graphics card doesnt support some feature of the game. what graphics card is in your sons machine.

It's an ATI 3D Rage XL and the game has a system check that we easily passed because the game is quite old. After checking the requirements again, it only needs directx8, so I don't know that reinstalling 9 would help anyway.

For some reason the game just can't seem to find the opengl subsystem.

Any other ideas?
