Hi, I have an Hp Pavilion 6360 and when I tried to do a fresh installation of windows 2000 professional edition it locks up. Everthing goes fine copy the files to my hard driver but when it tries to install and detect all my hardware devices it locks up right in the middle of the installation. My processor is 366 mhtz and I have 96 mb of ram. Thanks.

Hello. Welcome ! Your system has to meet certain requirements before you can install a windows product. Here are the system requirements for windows 2000 Pro System Requirements

Min Hard Drive Space - 2 GB
Min Processor Speed - 133 MHz
Min Processor Type - Intel Pentium
Min RAM Size - 64 MB

You did not state your hd size ,so that my be your problem...
Also these are the min,,,,requirements, 128 mb of ram or higher is better

ok, if I have all the requirements then it shouldn't lock up then should it? what else could be causing this?

Try removing all the peripheral gear connected to the computer (all printers, cameras, joysticks etc., also remove your sound, network, modem cards). In other words remove everything but your video, keyboard and mouse and try it that way. Those old proprietary systems are notoriously finicky when it comes to adding after market hardware or installing an os other than the one it shipped with. :)

That system was designed for win98, so you may not find some drivers for win2k.

which particular piece of hardware does the installation stop at?
