Well somone's 8 year old son I know that isnt very experianced with computers was looking for games to play...so finally he got to the windows folder (you can see where this is going) and he double clicked command thinking it was a game-now my friends comp is stuck in comamnd mode-and i came over to his house and typed in /win and /c and everything i could think of, but for example i type in /win and it says basically "ok restarting in windows mode" but when it restarts its command mode...
the only way he can get into his computer is pressing f12 (is that it??) and going into safe mode...but he has to do that everytime he starts up...

Something in your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files is causing this. That would be the first place to look. You could post the contents of them here (after writing them down or printing them out) for analysis.

That message usually indicates that the BIOS can't see the hard drive. Check all connections (power, data) to the drive. When the PC is booting, you should see some messages indicating what IDE drives were detected. If you don't see any listed, then the drive was not detected by the BIOS and you have a hardware problem. If the drive was detected, the boot sector data may be corrupted. You can download the files to create a boot diskette from http://www.bootdisk.com A Windows 98 boot diskette should allow you to boot to an A:> prompt. From there you can check to see if the hard drive can still be accessed.
