Hi.. I'm very new around here.. But it seems everyone provides very clear and comprehensible advice.. which is important because I will admit.. :( I am a windows disgrace.. lol
I have been having so many problems since my new hard drive was installed about a month ago.. Sytem Restore is not functioning etc.. But today The Sound Blaster Live became faulty due to my own stupid fault.. So, I uninstalled it.. and tried to reinstall it.. But it will not install!! it copies the files etc.. but then hangs when it's updating the drivers..
Should I just give up? or does anyone have any advice?
Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you

No, don't give up... Where's the frustration in that ;)
SB Live had some compatibility problems with some motherboards. That said, you had it working once. Try this: uninstall it in Device Manager, power down, and physically remove it from the computer. Reboot. Power down and reinstall the sound card. Let Windows find it and install drivers for it. If it still doesn't work, run the New Hardware wizard and install it again. If you can get it to work, then try updating the drivers.
It seems to me, when I built this machine I'm working on now, with a SB LIve! Value, that the original drivers on the CD that came with it worked all right, but updated drivers crashed the system. I had to go back to earlier drivers on the install CD. But that was years ago....
You might want to peruse M$'s Knowledgebase and try to get your System Restore to working again. It's problematic with ME, but it can be made to work. With it, if you get your sound working, you can create a restore point before trying to update the drivers.
Lots Of Luck,

Does ME try to install drivers of its own, without you having to check 'have disk'? It may ask for the Windows install CD. (If you don't have a Windows ME install CD and it asks for one, tell me.) That would be my first choice--let Windows install whatever drivers it has. Second choice, the Creative install CD that (probably) came with your sound card. If you can get it working with 'old' drivers, then you can decide if you need to update. I don't think I ever did.

I have a reinstallation CD WME, I have
(2) Sound Blaster CD's -
1) build # SBLV-DLOEM-W5-L5 Windows 98 driver
2) build # SBLV-DLWDM-W3-L5 Windows Millenium

Try uninstalling the card in Device Manager. Upon reboot, Windows should 'find new hardware.' Let Windows search for the best driver. If it asks for the Windows CD, put it in and be sure Windows accessed it. If Windows cannot find a driver either on your hard drive or on the Windows CD, go back a couple of steps (or restart the hardware wizard) and check 'Have disk.' Then use the Creative CD for Windows ME.
