I'm working on a friends packard bell computer which he about killed because he deleted a huge amount of files. I want to reinstall windows 95 so I formatted the C drive, and with the help of this forum, created a bootdisk from bootdisk.com. Everything seems to start out fine. The computer boots up from the disk, the cd-rom is recognized, and it leaves me at the a:\> prompt. With the backup disk inserted in the cd-rom, I changed the prompt to r:\>, type SETUP, hit ENTER. The cd-rom starts up but soon after I get the infamous "Bad command or file name" message and the prompt returns to R:\>. I don't know what to do from here. Perhaps some DOS files were deleted and that is what is causing this error. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is your Windows 95 CD a "Companion" disk?

The disk says Packard Bell Master CD, and also says For Distribution Only With A New PC. Its not an actual Windows 95 disk. I suppose that could be the problem.

A thought-

Find the directory on that cd which holds the CAB files. Use the CD command to point to that directory, and then run the setup.exe command. Might mean nothing, though. Just a thought.
