Does anyone know how to reset whatever has caused my Sony cd drive to no longer recognize audio cds, without reinstalling W95? I installed an old ALS120 sound card in my Pentium-S W95 machine (a former NT machine). It took several tries before I realized that I needed to reinstall W95 without the sound card installed (so W95 wouldn't install defaults that don't work), and several times my cd stopped recognizing audio cds (it said "no disc or data disc"). Each time I fixed it by reinstalling W95. I finally got the card to work enough to play the Windows startup music, as well as music from a midi program (which can't see the audio cds either). Neither Sound Recorder nor the midi program gets any input from the sound card. I'm afraid if I reinstall W95 again it will cause new problems. When I insert an audio cd, it plays for a fraction of a second then quits, then W95 decides it is a data disc. The cd works fine after each W95 reinstall, so it's not the drive. I hope fixing this will get the recording to work also, which is the only thing I want to use this machine for.
