cant delete files

hi
i have an ibook running on mac os X and for a while ive been trying to delete some files on my desk top that ive downloaded. most are music but when i try to move it to trash this error pops up:
" The item is being used by another task right now. (other tasks include moving, copying, or emptying the Trash.)

Try again when the other task is complete"

yet nothing is using the file. I have been trying to delete these files for months. what can i do??

Quit all runnign applications and try.

If that doesn't work

Choose Secure Empty Trash fromt eh finder application menu.

if that doesnt' work

Reboot and try Secure Empty Trash

If that doesnt' work

Repair disk permissions and try Secure Empty trash.

Ok im really not good with computers....on the finder i only find empty trash I dont find the secure empty trash... sorry i know i need help....thanks so much

Secure empty Trash should be right below Empty trash. Are you not the administrative user of the computer?

On the finder under empty trah it has services. I am the administrative user but i cant find secure empty trash anywhere. help.
