Meta tags = promotion?

Hello my people, hehe sorry

Anyway, I am just wondering, what can I do to promote my site into the search engine? Is meta tags has something to do with it? If so, where I can find a good resource to create these kinds of meta tags?

TIA

JC
PS. Sorry if I am asking to many questions.

most of the major sites no longer use meta tags when they do their listings. If you do a search using google using meta tags as keywords you will find all kinds of info about it. Most search engines uses a secret formula that takes content, hits, and a few other stuff to create their listings and how sites are ranked.

See this from google.
