Help With Secondary IDE problem

Hello all,

I stumbled to this forum via Google. I have an Me question. Recently, my CDROM and CDR drives have stopped showing up in Windows, while appearing in the BIOS intermittently. Sometimes simply rebooting will find the device. I have tried to find updated drivers from Windows or Gateway, but can't find anything. Tonight I will delete the drivers and try to let Windows refind it. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to do. Should I try to let Norton Utilities clean up my registry before doing this? I saw another forum suggested going into the registry myself to clean things up, but I'm not an uber-techie, so I'd rather not risk screwing things up worse than they already are.
