Windows Me..."Gater" takeover

Total system out of control. Tried Norton virus scan, spybot and tried to remove "gater". It has taken over the Verizon internet explorer. AOL won't work so I can't download from internet and can't download from disk any other spyware programs.
Tried to boot from a floppy to reformat drive and even though I changed config. bios boot drive to floppy drive...it still goes to CD rom drive.
Any solutions

one of the most hanus spywere's ever created! gator give me soooooooooo many headaches on me it was unbelieveable..

my method for stopin gator is to {i have a ethernet connection&sygate firewall}
not let it connect to the net, get a registery editor and delete the gator/gain
entries..

then search the pc for 'gator' and remove anything with the name
