I have Norton Systemworks & Internet Security (both 2004) and when I try to run a virus scan, halfway thru, it shuts down to black screen. I can't do anything then -- I have to turn off with power button and then reboot. I am running Win XP home and have Cox high speed cable connection-- Intel Pentium 4 processor, 512 MB SDRAM, 100GB hard drive, nVidia GeForce2 MX200 graphics w/32MB SDRAM. My Win XP firewalls are turned off. What could be causing this? Also goes to black screen after sitting idle for a long period of time.

no error messages at all? Go to your control panel, administrative tools, event viewer, click on either application or system, scroll down to the time the error accured, there should be a warning, and click on it, a property popup should apear, give whatever info you see there (type, event id, catagory, source) also click on the microsoft link and see what that says about it.
