My system is networked to my girlfriends. If I go online or her and I play a network game, I can not play again or go online unless I reboot to refresh my IP address. I can not use winipcfg to release and refresh my IP because it wont let me release it, and it gives me a new IP every time I reboot.

Shadow,

What type of internet connection type do you have ? Cable/Modem/ADSL etc. ?

Does your ISP give you a static IP address ?

At the moment both machines are running 98, I have a dialup connection. No addtional software is being used for network connection. I use Juno and Net Zero for ISP's

Hi there,

I have two LAN's that I run. Anythime I run into a problem like you discribe, I uninstall everything that has to do with networking and reinstall. Make sure you go into Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup and take the Check Mark out of the "Communications" checkbox. (This will force Windows to Rebuild.) Remove anything that is in the Device Manager that has to do with networking. Reboot the machine and reinstall everything and setup TCP/IP etc...

You may need to redo DUN also.

Don't forget to write down all your settings in TCP/IP before you do anything.
