How do you configure a Linksys BEFSR41 (cable) Router to allow access to Napster?

Hi paras,

Hmmm, I use a Linksys hub with cable access and have no trouble. I'm wondering if it's in the setup when you install Napster. Seems to me I saw something relative to your question when I installed Napster. Other than that hunch, try Napster's web site for trouble shooting.

Hi
I have a linksys BEFSR41 cable router and there are no special settings you have to make to use napster with the router. This is straight from the instruction booklet of the router.

Your answer to read the manual does not help me. (I have worn it thin) The router works fine, but it seems to block all Napster uploads, and after the first upload attempt, downloads stall out. I have tried DMZ, IP forwarding, etc to no avail. How is your friend's router configured such that Napster works ok through it?

I also have trouble with Napster not running uploads from my machine. My modem is a Zoom 33.6 ISA.
I think the problem lies in your ISP rather than your local networking hardware.

If your router has a DMZ ip zone, try putting the ip of the computer in that zone. In the router configuration put the ip of the computer behind the router and then the port number that Napster is trying to open. You might have to open 2 ports, one to send and another to recieve.

hi there.

this is the system where we're trying to implement and configure the linksys router.

BEFSR41 settings:
Obtain ip address automatically
DHCP disabled (had tried enabled, Napster downloads still got blocked)
Forwarding port 6000-7000 to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101 (Napster set to 6699, i cked it, and reset it to this port)
Working mode: gateway
Trying DMZ host at 192.168.1.1 (though this would shut off the firewall, but alas...)

the box instructions do not help.

any help will be appreciated to help troubleshoot the problem.
