My house of 5 people has a router with roadrunner internet connection. All other computers hooked up and worked fine. I have my ethernet cord connected but still can't connect to the internet. I may need to configure my computer to the router, but do not know how. Any thoughts?

Welcome :)
Check the cable.
Check to see if the LEDs are lit on the NIC and the Router
Check to see if your NIC is installed correctly via Device Manager
Check to see if you have an IP Address
Check to that IE is using the LAN settings and that they are correct.

Thanks you for responding! Unfortunately I am not home to check your suggestions, but i do know that my connection does not light up on the Router. If possible, could you clarify your acronyms? NIC, IP, IE..what is IP address? Sorry I am not savvy-thats why im here!

Hi,
Well, firstly if the light on the router is not lit then it would suggest a faulty cable.
NIC = Network Interface Card
IP = Internet Protocol
IP Address = ^
IE = Internet Explorer
You need an IP Address to connect to the router.
The router should be assigning these.
The Router IP will probably be 192.168.1.1
You and your firends should be getting IP Addresses such as
192.168.1.100
192.168.1.101
192.168.1.1........ etc.
You can see if you are getting an IP Address via a command prompt and typing
IPCONFIG
