I just bought a new computer and wanted to get my files off of my old one. So I bought a serial cable, and have been trying to do a direct cable connection, but it won't work. I went through the troubleshooting help, but none of it solved my problem. Help me please! Thanks

Hi there,
Well, I've never done it the way you are trying. I always hook up a parallel zip drive and transfer my files that way. Or I just take out the old drive and set it up as a slave on the new computer and copy everything over that way. Then I remove the old hard drive.
But maybe someone will come along to help you with the "Direct Cable Connection" way.

Okay. How do I check to see if my ports are set right? The computers are acting like they aren't even connected. The guest computer says "Can't connect to host computer". And what is the right kind of cable? I'm pretty sure the one I have is okay. Thanks for your help.

Actually, what kind of zip drive would you recommend. I think I'm giving up on this cable thing. It doesn't seem to want to work with me.

If you're in the States, you can get a parallel Zip drive with one zip disk for $99. They are easy to move from computer to computer, or just keep it hooked up to one.
