I have win2k prof running at HOME. my pc has 2 hdds; the 1st hdd has 4 partitions; win2k is on C drive. It has floppy drive, and cdrom.
I want to format C drive and reinstall win2k again.
How can I do that ? What are the precautions I should take like making bootable cd, floppy etc.
Also startup time is more. What services are to be disabled for speeding it up.
Please help me.

there arnt really any risks that i know of unless you want to keep your files and partions. iv formatted my hd many times and never had a problem sometimes windows 2k that was freshly installed didnt install properly so another format was required. but other than that i have never had any problems.
i just backed up all of my files as zip files and put them onto disk.
checked i had all of my drivers, windows disk and cd key.
just run either format or fdisk and wipe the hard drive you wish to wipe.
you shouldnt need any recovery disks as long as ou have a full backup of all of your files

why so many partitions do you really need that many on one disk. as far as i know the startup disk is the emergency repair disk if it isnt there is an option on backup
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup its the 3rd box down on the back welcom screen

1. Panic and Run around holding your head
OK Let Start
1. Backup any data you wish to keep to Floppy or CD-RW
2. insert you Windows 2000 CD and set the Bios to Boot from CD
3. PC will boot up and ask press any key to boot from CD
4. Let Windows 2000 Load install and remove all partitions by pressing Delete, Key then L Key,l Follwed by Enter (This will remove all your old partitions)
5. Crteate one big partition if that what you want
6. Install Windows 2000 in the normal way
1. No stop take a deep breath and hope you have all the right drivers; if not let windows 2000 find then on-line.
Best of Luck

I have to format because, I can't create New Connection ( dial up ) Why can't you create a new connection in DUN? Isurely would not reinstall my OS due to this. Could you be more specific as to why you feel that you need to reformat/partition and clean install the OS?
