Hello,

This is my first post with cyber tech I hope you guys can help. I'm running 2000 professsional on a IBM lap top. I had a small spill on the keyboard. I removed all the keys cleaned everything when I booted back up the OS would not recognize my password. I have so much info. on the hard drive I desperately do not want to lose....I've been hearing I will not be able to recover this info. if I reinstall the OS is there any help for me in recovering the password or bypassing the pw....Please Help:upset:

Hi there and welcome.
Obviously we're not going to help you crack a password.
I suggest your problem here is hardware still.

Possibility 1 - You put the keys back on in an incorrect key map (a key is transposed)
Possibility 2 - there is a short-circuit in the keyboard pad under the keys

Either way, the keyboard is registering the incorrect keys when you press the correct password.

Use the userID field to test the keymap - type your password in that field (because it's not masked ******) and see if it looks right.
