Hi there. My p.c is linked to an NT network using cat5 cabling etc. Just recently it seems to take ages for my pc to link up and give me the log on window. My pc's hard drive seems to go into overdrive and the other users on the network notice a significant slowdown in speed until the log on window appears on my pc. I can see the whole network through network neighbourhood no problem so I'm assuming that the network card and cabling cannot be the problem !! Has anyone got any idea's ??

maybe check the settings on the NIC. If you have a 100mb card on a 100mb network, don't choose "auto detect" for the card. Force it to communicate at full duplex 100mb. Sometimes autodetect can screw things up.

Hi billy. I'm assuming (and we know what happens then) that there have been no hardware or software upgrades to the network or to your PC since this started happening, and judging the amount of trafic that is being generated during the connection process, just to get the logon screen, I would guess that either the cable connection at the NIC or hub/patch pannel or your NIC is in fact bad.

Thanks for the help. I think it does pull down scripts at log in but am not 100% sure. What could tha cause ? I'm going to try using another cable and patch board before going any further.
