Hi,

I am decided that I am going to network two computers WITH a router and I was wondering, how is difficult to network two computers? Is it easy to do? or just plan hard? Also anyone has a recommendation on what kind of router brand should I get.

Thanks.

JC

I use a Linksys 4 Port Cable/DSL Router and it is easy to setup.

It comes with a Quick Start sheet for setup instructions.

Awesome, thanks guys. Is it possible to split the speed? You know like one computer have 20 kilobyes download speed and 10 kilobytes of upload speed, and the other computer have the other half.

You would need seperate bandwidth/proxy software for that.

First look at your budget and what you wish to do.

1. Network via CAT5 Cross Over Cable; take two computer with Network Card 10/100 and fit a cross over cable between them and set up an IP Address as follows

PC1 - 192.168.1.1
PC2 - 192.168.1.2

That them Networked; now to add Broadband or a dial-up connection

Install your B/Band and make a dial up connection or DSL Connection; you can now share this connection using Windows XP / 2000 etc... once shared all you need to do is set the TCPIP Gateway as follows

PC1 - Internet Sharing Computer
TCPIP - 192.168.1.1
Submask - 255.255.255.0

PC2 - Computer Sharing the Internet
TCPIP - 192.168.1.2
Submask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.1.1
DNS Pri - 192.168.1.1
DNS Sec - 213.119.1.102 (That a BT one or use your providers)

Use the ping command to test the ip address. The same basic setup can work for router, wireless router, 2 to 200 computers etc.. Best Router I found to use were DLink a little expensive but work well and easy to set up.
