Hi there again,
After windows has loaded it does not prompt me to log in to the network and restore network connections any more. I have checked to make sure the logon is the microsoft networks logon as opposed to windows logon. I even deleted everything associated with the network and reinstalled all the protocols, etc. But it still just comes right up. Is there some file somewhere that I would need to change to have it prompt me to log in? Thanks!

I am using windows 98 on all computers networked. I have not had this problem on any other computers. I'm not sure why but it won't log in and restore connections, it comes right up to the desktop then I have to click "log off" to have it prompt me to log in and restore connections. Thanks!

Just a hunch but do you use any tweak programs on that computer like Tweakui ?
Sounds like you have configged the computer to automatically log you in.

Nope, nothing like that...didn't change any settings. It just all the sudden happened one day and I can't remember anything that I might have done to have it do that. I've gone in to network properties and cleared everything out and reinstalled and even put a new network card in because of some other problems. Do you think it could be something with the registry?

Hmm this is a strange problem because you have already mentioned that you reinstalled all networking components.
You didn't mention if you had uninstalled specifically Client For MS Networks ?
If not uninstall this and reinstall after a reboot.
Again make the login MS Networks login.
BTW are you sharing drives/files/folders on the computer that won't get the login screen ?
If this still doesn't work pls post back as I have a some more suggestions.
For example
Thanks,
MishY

OK, I've just been playing about with the win98 computer this win2k box Im typing on is networked to.
Here are some further suggestions.
Make sure Client for MS Networks is installed.
Make sure that you are using the right logon for the right client.
ie. Primary Network logon : Client for MS Networks
Then click Start/Shutdown and choose Close all programs and login as a different user.
If you STILL don't see the login screen at boot you will need to look at the following registry key.
Please be warned you should ALWAYS backup your registry prior to editting/modifying/adding to it. If you don't feel comfortable editting your registry DON'T do it. Please ask if you're unsure.
If you have never used REGEDIT before it works in the same fashion as Windows Explorer. The lefthand pane is for the folders. The righthand pane for the contents of the folders.
Right, start off by loading REGEDIT -
Click Start / Run / type in REGEDIT and hit Enter.
Now navigate to the following folder
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Network\RealModeNet
Just a tip : You will know when you're in the right place because that line above that I wrote with the folder location will appear at the bottom of the regedit window.
Look in the right pane which will be displaying the contents of that folder for a key called AUTOLOGON
If you see this key right click the key (make sure you pick the right one !!!) and click delete.
Exit REGEDIT and reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
For further reading MSKb Q141858 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q141/8/58.asp)
I will also point out that although they say to change the value to 00 all that does is disable the autologon and deleting this key would have the same effect.
Please keep us posted ;)

Aha! I knew it was something with the registry, that was it! I don't know how that got there in the first place. Thank you SO much for all of your help! :)
