How to delete a partition(fdisk) problem..

I am trying to use the tutorial "Hot to delete a partition(fdisk)", and when i get to the command prompt in the beginning i type in fdisk. and i get a message on the top of the screen "NO FIXED DISKS PRESENT" ??? any thoughts? what do i do?
