Windows 98Fe. Everything works like a champ except..........
Just today noticed WMP will not play wavs I have loaded on drive with sound.
Sound recorder, Quicktime Player, and Irfanview have no problems playing any and all these same songs. Weird.:dizzy:
Ran spybot, adaware, spywareblaster, Hijackthis, and Easy Cleaner. No probs.
First I tried over install WMP7.1. No sound.
Even uninstalled WMP, d/l'd and reinstalled new copy WMP 7.1. Still no sound.
Sound bar moves as normal but no sound.
I disabled all startup items from msconfig. No sound.
I even over installed W98. No sound.
I have backup drive (data 'bout 6-8 weeks old...backups getting further apart) and it plays just fine when disk loaded as master.
Stumped.:( Any ideas?:sarcastic
Thanks.

P.S. Searched google extensively for troubleshooting this particular prob but came up empty.

Know how you feel my friend I cant get any sound out of my WMP either, I can see the bar moving along but no sound, I think there is a problem with the registry with mine, it mentions incorrect parameters whatever that means still stumped, Real Player works fine and so does Music Match...can anyone out there HELP!!!!!!

Did you check the volume speaker on the bottom of the player, make sure the volume slide all the way up . Also check and make sure it is not muted.
Go to the top of media player and open play, scroll to volume and click on up that will make it unmuted Hope this helps
If that don't help you may have to uninstall and reinstall

Try these, in the following order: Open WinAmp:

1. Go to Preferences (Ctrl-P) -> Pulgins -> Select "Nullsoft waveOut plug-in..." -> Close.

2. Go to Preferences (Ctrl+P) -> Output -> DirectSound -> Configure
Change the Output Device from the drop down menu to one that best describes your soundcard.

Thanks Murf, but I fixed it by reinstalling DirectX 9b. Who knew?
