cd-rom troubles

now my cd-rom isn't detecting the disks that i put in. The icon doesn't even change when i put a disk in. i checked the wires and connections and they all seem to be fine. it's a Creative 52x cd-rom if that is of any use.

Go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager tab, double-click the CDROM branch on the Device Manager tab, then double-click the entry for your CD-ROM drive. Go to the Settings tab and if "Auto Insert Notification" isn't checked, check it. Click OK>Close and yes to restart.

i got to the settings and the disconnect and auto insert notification were already checked. im not sure what the deal is i swapped in a cd-rom that i know works and it still did the same thing.

Does the cdrom light come on when you insert a CD? Does the cdrom spin up when you insert a CD?

the light will flash when the door is closing but not after and i didn't hear the cd spin up either.

does anyone know of a sulition to this? Because I am having the same problem on my sager 4780 laptop.... and there are no cables to check either without taking the whole thing apart....
