I have an ADSL connection an ethernet modem and I connect to the internet using it just fine. It is a D-LINK DSL-300T. I got an STLAB router and when I connect it I don't have internet even though the modem is connected. I changed the ip adress for the modem configuration from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1 because the router also uses this ip but again the same problem. I have no idea what could be wrong. I can not access the router config page. I have not tried to reboot the system because I am not sure what to do first. It seems like the router is blocking me from my connection and since I can't configure it I can't do nothing. Any ideas? Help? :( :dizzy: :( :(

I managed to get into the router config by disabling Norton Internet Security. But when I got to the settings and I was about to choose what connection I have I chose PPPoE but my ISP told me that I have PPPoA using VC-Mux. The choices I have are:

Cable Modem(Dynamic IP)
Fixed IP xDSL
Dial-Up xDSL(PPPoE)
PPPTP

What can I do? It doesn't work. Should I change the gateway? I don't have a clue.

Hi shroomerious,

I am a d-link router user too, but my model is different from yours. I have several problems with mine I was able to solve it. Here's the step I took to solve my router problems:

1. I asked my isp provider what type of dsl connection I got.
2. I configured the router using the built in web configuration guide, without connecting it router to the internet yet.
3. then I used the ping command to make sure that I got the computer and the router properly connected.
4. I plugged the adsl modem to the wan side of the router.

after this it worked fine. I'm not familiar with your model but perhaps the above will help. You can go the the website of d-link and ask help from their technical support staff. Im sure they will know know what you need to do.

Cheers, Sam

My router is an STLab not a D-Link, my modem is a D-Link.

My ISP says that I have PPoA using VC-Mux but I don't have that choice with the router. Where is that ping command? I think that my router is properly connected to my pc but I don't think it is prperly connected to my modem...

I can see that the WAN router connection is not working from the status page in the router config. Everything is 0.0..0.0.0.0.0.0.

What should I do?

I chose Dynamic IP and now in status I see that I am connected but I still can't use the internet...

Sham

First the Dlink DSL-300T is a DHCP DSL Modem this will be pumping out and ip address so first connect this directly to you pc via the wan and you set you lan ip to obtain automaticcly; you should get a direct connection to your b/band provider if your with bt then you modem will be pppoa vc-mux try this first if that works you know your modem and line are fine. once you are connected you will need to update the firmware in the dlink 300t to allow this to connect to any router other wise it will not allow you to clone the mac address of your router so goto www.dlink.co.uk and find the firmware and do the update; now reboot the modem and disconnect from your computer plug in your router and check the ip address see if it giving our the same range if so configure the router to a new range then reboot the router with the modem plugged in it should build a bridge between the two. I have had some routers that do not support external dsl modems that includes dlink300t to dlink804hv until I download all the firmware updateds.

Let me know how you get on.
