Re-installing Windows 98 - don't have Product Key

I'm trying to re-install Windows 98 on a computer. I have the cd that came with it but there is no product key which is required to complete the installation.

How can i get that?

Thanks

Depends on how far you've gone. Can you still get to the registry? It's in there.
Product Key in on the CD package or book. I (most) write the key on CD with magic marker (topside of course).
Call MS if it's a registered WinCD.
Good luck.

too far gone

and i only have a couple different gateway system 98 se cd's and keys here, which do no good on this pack bell system.,

hmm

neighbor will just have to buy an OS and key just like everyone else has to

it would be next to impossible to make him understand why, and to explain to him that evne if the burned cd of 98 he has was in the case that he gave me it would still be useless without a key

but we all know that OS's are copyrighted and have keys and that you have to have one for every computer(windows OS's anyways)

he will probably just throw the computer away, im sure,

thanks

You should also tell him that it is illegal to reproduce copies of Windows Operating Systems and use them on more than one computer with the same licence key. If the CD he is using is an official CD from Microsoft, he may contact them and get a licence key from them if he reports his 'lost'. They will just ask him for other details that will confirm his legitimacy and it will save him from buying a new Operating System all over again.

If him or yourself are using a priated version of Windows with the same licence key of an original that is already installed on another machine, then please stop. It is against the law and I am near certain this forum does not partake in helping people pirate copies of Windows. You may have to read the rules or ask a moderator about that, though.

The original post was last September, I'm sure Terpi has resolved this issue, as he never came back with an answer.

Therefore I am closing this thread.
