I am about to install a cable modem to my machine (Windows 98) I have read the manufacturers instructions and I have one question only. I have another computer in the house and I want to connect that one to the modem as well without networking the two togeter. Is this possible running Windows 98? I have two USB ports on my machine one is connected to my scanner and the other to the modem. What do I need to do/buy to complete two connections to the modem?

Hi there,

If you want a trouble free system, forget the USB.

You'll need a router and two network interface cards (NIC's). I suggest Linksys products. I've used them many times. They are a very good product at a good price. 3Com is (IMHO) not as easy to work with. I ran in to conflicts every time I tried 3Com.

Linksys has excellent insturctions on how to set everything up. www.linksys.com (http://www.linksys.com)

IF you want just transfer or play network games, i suggest you to use direct cable connection. NUll modem or parallel direct connection. OR if you want more faster, usp conection. They are cheaper.
