I am in a university campus right now (American University in Bulgaria) and I have some problems with Usenet. I have a very fast internet connection and I can download from websites with about 200 Kb/s, constantly. Nevertheless, when I try to download binaries from usenet, through Forte Agent, I cannot get past 1 - 2 Kb/s, with numerous disconnections. I have tried 3 different usenet providers, all good and tested before, and is the same. I have no idea what's happening or how I can change the situation. If you know any good forums on usenet, please let me know, or please try to help here.
Thank you! |

Welcome
![]() I would guess that the university network is using a proxy server or filters that the Usenet program is not routing through or not setup for. it's unlikely that the admin would change it.

Might be. I simply don't understand how is it that I am allowed to connect to my provider and I am allowed to download, but my speed is that low. If what you are saying is true, is there any way to "skip" the proxy?

Latest news: it is working when I download the files through a web-based interface. So, besides my initial question, does anybody know any good usenet providers that can offer web-based interfaces?
Thanks! |
