Laptop running slow after installing FutureDial software for cell modem
Hi:
I have a fairly new Toshiba laptop 4/3.0GHz, 80GB HDD, and 1 GB RAM. It's usually on a small network using a D-Link router. To troubleshoot I removed some apps in start up msconfig to no avail. I recently installed Future Dial, a program to use my cell as a modem. This adds software and USB drivers. I've run through Housecall, AVG, Sybot and Adaware worried that I had a virus. Could there be an issue with the networking vs. dial-up configuration? Please help...I've obviously cleaned out temp files, defraged, etc. Here's my HJT log, in case someone wants to see if it might be a virus issue: Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2 Scan saved at 8:33:41 AM, on 9/26/2004 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\ezSP_Px.exe C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exe C:\Program Files\Toshiba Controls\CpRmtKey.EXE C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Power Management\CePMTray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG6\avgcc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehmsas.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchPad\TPTray.exe C:\Program Files\Emuzed\CopyProtectionNotification\CopyProtec tionNotifier.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\E-KEY\CeEKey.exe C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG6\avgserv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\DVDRAMSV.exe C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehSched.exe C:\jetsuite\JETSTAT.EXE c:\jetsuite\jsdaemon.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe c:\jetsuite\JSFMAN.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Downloads\HijackThis.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.toshiba.com/search R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.foxnews.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.toshiba.com R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://balletalert.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = sas.r21.mchsi.com:8000 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.r21.mchsi.com;<local> O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdxm.ocx O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ezShieldProtector for Px] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ezSP_Px.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Zone Labs Client] C:\PROGRA~1\ZONELA~1\ZONEAL~1\zlclient.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ehTray] C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CpRmtKey] "C:\Program Files\Toshiba Controls\CpRmtKey.EXE" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CeEPOWER] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Power Management\CePMTray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG_CC] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG6\avgcc32.exe /STARTUP O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateManager] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TPNF] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchPad\TPTray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CP] C:\Program Files\Emuzed\CopyProtectionNotification\CopyProtec tionNotifier.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CeEKEY] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\E-KEY\CeEKey.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpybotSD TeaTimer] C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe O4 - Global Startup: DllCmd32.lnk = C:\jetsuite\DLLCMD32.EXE O4 - Global Startup: HP LaserJet 3100 Status.lnk = C:\jetsuite\JETSTAT.EXE O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file) O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file) O9 - Extra button: Real.com - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\Shdocvw.dll O12 - Plugin for .spop: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins\NPDocBox.dll O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.toshiba.com O16 - DPF: ppctlcab - http://www.pestscan.com/scanner/ppctlcab.cab O16 - DPF: {2FC9A21E-2069-4E47-8235-36318989DB13} (PPSDKActiveXScanner.MainScreen) - http://www.pestscan.com/scanner/axscanner.cab O16 - DPF: {556DDE35-E955-11D0-A707-000000521957} - http://www.xblock.com/download/xclean_micro.exe O16 - DPF: {60EFC337-15C2-4369-B2A0-3429B071D8B8} (WebProgramManager Class) - http://isupport4.hp.com/awebui/jsp/...SWebManager.CAB O16 - DPF: {638AF6A2-81A1-4655-9FFA-9FC09CDE22CF} (CScanner Object) - http://www.pestscan.com/scanner/ppctlcab.cab O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/...all/xscan53.cab |

Looks OK
Hi
Your log looks ok. see that you have zone alarm on; have you check the setting for your dialer to see if it in a trusted zone. I had a simular problem with Nokia Software and my old laptop the speed fell I removed it and did a firmware update to the phone and it works fine. Does the Laptop work fine in normal surrondings.. ie on the LAN without the Software installed? if it does look for a conflict in communication protocols Not much I can surggest check the LAN / WAN do a Rout table and check the dialer. Regards
