Hi.
All Expert's out ther

I have an old Broadband Router; this is a Jensen Scandinavia Broadband
Router.
My problem is, My LAN has grown and I need to manage the Bandwidth to every
user, and / or to every subnet in my LAN.

My setup and wishes are:

The LAN is a private Network (at home) with 9 soon to bee 12 computers in two subnets.

The LAN is running with a Workgroup and I do not have a dedicated server or fileserver in it.

I do want to have this LAN running without any dedicated server or
fileserver in it as long as possible.

My Broadband supplier (ISP) provides this network with aprox. T2 line (ADSL).

All of the computers in my LAN are running Windows 2000 or higher.
My intentions are to monitor and control the bandwidth, and distribute
bandwidth as I find best, in best case for every IP address in my LAN, at least for every subnet in my LAN.

And I would like to monitor / log the Bandwidth in from my ISP.

Somone in my LAN arr using all my Bandwidth :disgust:

My question too you experts out there is:
Is there any software to solve my problem, and were do I get hold of it.
I did find the free version of "IP Shaper Bandwidth Control Manager 1.0" but I can't sem to get i downloaded from this adress:

Hope some of you can help me

I too had this same problem. I am not a certified MSCE, I know enough to get what I need done. The rest comes from the smart people like jmyner, who helped me out not to long ago. See I am flooding my neighborhood with free internet throttled at 64/128kbs - 512/5mbs. I needed a solution to throttle my BW hungry clients (Neighbors). I had been getting complaints from the people that I web host for, that pages were loading slow? I needed a solution fast! A few frantic forum posts and I had my answer. I chose to go with the free solution "Linux." I made a couple of entries and I had curbed the problem and everyone is smiling. So here you go I hope this helps.

[Linux]
There are several ways to accomplish this. I used the suggestion provided to me by jmyner. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38502 (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38502) Or click my screen name and search by my post for my post titled
"VPN Bandwidth Throttling"

[ISA Server / (proxy server)]

I heard you can do this with a Win2k/Win2k3 box running ISA Services. There's a section under the ISA MMC snap-in that will allow you to create new Bandwidth rules. I have not tried this method as of yet.
ISA I believe replaced MS PROXY 2.0, so I don't see why it shouldn't work correctly like a proxy server—plus it has a built in Firewall with it J I might be wrong about the proxy server being replaced by ISA Server services, as I am no expert..

You will want to move away from the workgroup thing in favor of Active directory, check out the ISA server once you upgrade. You will then have the control over your computers, bandwidth, and log files…plus a firewall.

[Hardware]

I just ran a firmware upgrade on my Wireless (Linksys wrt54g router) and I now have the option of throttling Bandwidth by MAC ID...go figure! Upgrade your equipment and you can choose which features you want included with your next upgrade purchase.

I hope you have your BW problems worked out, and please if you think of it, update this post or send me an email and let me know how it is working out for you. spang_halflife@yahoo.com (spang_halflife@yahoo.com)

Best of luck
