I tried to read some similar matters, but I need some basic info and answers, because I'm not a "technical" one

I have these 2 problems, I think connected

- cd-rom not detected
- primary and secondary controller Ide with a (!) in peripherics

I think I have to reinstall these 2 controllers, and I also read that is possible to open the pc, take out all cables....
Is it possible to do something before to open the pc ?

How to try to reinstall the ide drivers if I cannot see the cd-rom (so I cannot put on the w98 cd with the drivers)

Also the pc is stand alone and not connected with internet so I can't download anything directly but only take a floppy to it

Many thanks

Has this system been physically moved before this all happened?
When did it last work and what was done before it quit?
Has anyone been inside the cpu?
Do you know where the primary/secondary ribbon cables are if you got into your machine?
Do you know how to get into your bios and auto detect controllers?
Lot of Q's. Sorry. More info. I need more.....more.....more.....I tell you.:dizzy:
Try going into device manager and removing the controllers and rebooting to let system identify them again. If it asks for location of some software, looking for WinCD, substitute loaction with c:\windows and/or c:\windows\system.
