she set up another computer at her same desk area and the same problem came up? I was wondering if it had anything to do with her phone line? I was just thinking of anything that could cause it?

Try the same computer in a different area using a different phone line.

Also, you could try plugging in a phone to the line in question and see if it works.

If more than 1 computers with modems that work in other locations don't work in that location, I'd say it's time to call the phone service provider. Sometimes lines develop problems.

As mentioned above, use a single line phone to test wall jack you plug your modem line into for dialtone.
Do your telephones work in this area?
Should be simple to track down.
2 months?? I wouldn't have 1% of that patience.
Good luck.

FYI: A bad phoneline has nothing to do with modem not found.
Even if modem not hooked up to phone jack, the worst you'd get is no dialtone message.
Are you phrasing the error correctly. I can't believe you brought a working computer in to replace non-working one and get modem not found.

Go to start/control panel/system/Device Manager
Scroll down to modem. Is modem listed at all? If so, click + sign next to modem.
Highlight modem it brings up, if any, and click on properties. This will tell you if modem is installed properly. "This device is working properly"

How does all this sound?
