Hi can anyone help? We have a pc which operates on windows 98se. We have decided to connect it to the internet but keep failing. Everytime we try to dial up we get the message 'unable to establish a connection' and 'failed to connect to remote server'. I can hear the number being dialled but then it just sounds like a busy tone. I have tried putting in the nnumber manually and also trying the internet connection wizard but get the same message. Can anyone suggest anything?

Hi Welcome to CTH
Double click "My Computer" then Dial-Up Networking ICON.
Tell us what protocols are installed should be something like:
Microsoft Network
TCP/IP
Dial Up Adapter

You need to make a new connection. Double click on Make a New Connection and follow the prompts.

Hi,
Made a new connection but same thing happens...cannot get through. I hear the number being dialled but it does not connect. Also tried the wizard but same. It won't connect to ISP or the number to find an ISp. Not my telephone line or the lead I use as I've managed to make a connection for the laptop. Tried all the obvious things with settings that the isp and trouble shooting suggests. Could it be the modem? IT's a standard modem built in. Any suggestions would be grateful!
