Router port

Hi All

I want to know if there is away to see a port is open on a router with out using a ping utility. I have downlaoded a number of port scanners and they use the ping utility. My router does not allow pinging or trace route. My employees are opening router port so they can play games at night and forget to close the port. I want to run a program that checks to which ports are open
