Just installed Win98SE again. Having trouble with my 3Com 905B-TX. I followed 3Com's recomendation of installing windows before installing the NIC, in order to prevent Windows from using it's crappy default drivers. Installed 3Com's most recent drivers without a problem. Windows sees the card fine.

But...

Can't talk to my router or anything outside the box. I can ping myself 127.0.0.1 fine. Running winipcfg shows an "IP Autoconfiguration Address" of 168.254.65.242.

The funniest part is I can fire up Knoppix or Damn Small Linux or Slackware and everything works fine. I've had Win98SE installed on this machine before with everything working. I think it's possessed.... Any tips would be appreciated.

Did you release and renew the IP Address? What is the Address on the other boxes? They have to have the same first 3 segments of the Dotted Quad.

i.e. 192.168.1.xxx and be on the same Subnet Mask i.e. 255.255.255.0

If your using a DHCP Router, all new Braodband routers have this, you will get a correct IP address from the Router when you release and renew the IP address.

Good luck
