Have you tried downloading and installing the latest drivers?

Stu,

I traced the problem, got the Win Me NIC to work and test, but the Win 98 machine won't recognize it's card. I had taken out the PCI card from the 98 to use in the Me and used my older 486 card (worked last week....) in the 98 because of slot sizes. It loads an
"Existing ndis2 driver" in the device manager, but hasn't been able to find card on "add new hardware". I don't know the name of the card.

Mike,

Have a look on the card itself for an FCC number. This will help us to trace the manufacturer and model number.

Have you tried removing the card from both Device Manager and the system rebooting a couple of times and then reinstalling ????

Do you have the old driver disk for the card ????

Stu,
I have 2 driver disks, the realteck one worked on the new computer. The other disk says "Ethernet Card for PCI NE2000 Compatible, it doesn't seem to want to loadPCI Ehernet Card Software Version 2.0
-------------------------------------

This disk contains the binary final release of PCI Ethernet Card Version 2.0
software. The drivers included in this release are:
IPX Driver
ODI (DOS, OS/2, Server, Client32)
NDIS 2.0.1 (DOS, OS/2)
NDIS 3.0 (WFW 3.11, NT 3.1 / 3.5 / 3.51 / 4.0, WINDOWS 95)
Packet Driver
LANTASTI(5.0, 6.0) Driver
SCO UNIX (3.x, 4.x, 5.x)
Configuration and Diagnostic Program
Network Operating System Easy Installatin Program
RPL Boot ROM Installation Guide(\SERVER.ODI, \WINNT)

I don't think this belongs to this card. It's in an ISA slot, not a PCI. It IS made for the ISA....

I'm going to delete all network adaptors, then replace them in device manager.

I'll let you know.

When I tried to autodetect the NIC the only thing windows finds is the "Existing Ndis2 driver". I don't think that's the card. In device manager it says the device is functioning normally but has no driver installed. Tried to update driver, asked for win98 disk and loaded a driver file, then the device has a problem that windows can't determine. I think it's time to buy a new NIC.

Mike,

That sounds like a strange problem. It's a shame you can't identify the card as we could probably find an updated driver for it.

Having said that NIC's are cheap. If you'd like us to keep trying with this just say http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Mike,

Like Mishy said, if you can get us an FCC id number we can track the NIC down and get an updated driver for ya.

I'm sorry, I thought I sent the FCC # last letter.
FCC ID: KA2APC260PO
Canada ICES: 003, Class B
VCCI clas 2

That's all the info on the card, if it doesn't take too long let me know what kind it is, but it's strange that Windows won't detect it on the PnP.

The is made by D-Link. Now if ya can find the model number we will have ya a driver.
