I have a problem where after I have been connected to the internet for a while, for no apparent reason, I lose the connection but whats strange is the computer is actually still connected but is just acting as if it is not. THe connection is still there but I get the page not found type message you get when the connection is lost. Also Outlook can no longer pick up mail. I then have to disconnect from the internet (which seems to take longer than it should) and then reconnect again. It will be fine then for a while until it does it again. Is this likely to be a problem with my computer or my ISP (which is not terribly reliable anyway!)

First what are you using?
Dial up, ADSL, cable? Are you behind a router or firewall? have you checked with your Internet service provider (ISP) >? what are the specs of your pc? who did the setup, was it yourself or someone else? if it was you that did the setup, could you take us through the setup Post back Good luck!!

I am using win Xp professional on a Sony PCG-FR825P laptop. This is a recent problem - before I was away in the summer I didn't have the same problem - although I could get disconnected every so often!! I am in Oman and it is a dial up connection which has never been great! No point in asking them as it is impossible to get a straight answer !! I am also using Norton Internet Security. Its very annoying but is also an intermittent problem although quite frequent. For instance I have been logged in a while this morning and it has not happened. Thats why I am wondering whether it could be the ISP providers problem.

It does sound like an ISP problem.
Could you try another laptop/PC with the connection?
