I am trying to setup a wireless router in my office and have hit a brick wall!!!... The router is a Linksys BEFW11S4 and when I run the setup wizard I get to the first step which is "Set up your first computer."... Now I know I have a internet connection (hence my ability to write this thread) but I cant even get past the 1st step b/c the setup wizard gives me an error that says "The computer is not connected to the internet. Check your internet connection."... ***???... someone please HELP!!!... I'm running a network throughout the office so im assuming that im using a static IP address... I have all the necessary info like DNS, Subnet Mask, blah blah blah, but cant even get far enough in the install to use it... PLEASE HELP!!!!

The Router you are trying to install is a Broadband Router, it assumes IT is the primary connection to the Internet. If you are on a WIRED network at you comapny this may NOT be the Primarary connection to the Internet, I'm assuming.
How do you connect to the Internet DSL, Cable, T-1?
This Wireless Broadband Router needs to be connected to a DSL or Cable Modem. If you just try to plug this router into an existing Network it will not work. Assuming that is the case, you need a Wireless Access Point, like a Linksys WAP11, WAP51AB or a WAP54A, rather than the Braodband Router you have.
Hope this helps.

I connect through T-1... but my first problem is without even plugging the router in yet... the setup wizard asks just to establish a connection to the internet, the router isnt even involved at this point... why can't the setup wizard make a connection to the internet when im obviously connected (this is the computer that the wizard says has no connection)???

The Wizard IS assuming you are using this router to access the Internet using a DSL or CABLE Modem, which you are NOT. You need to use a WAP. This Broadband Router will NOT work using a T-1 line. You company SHOULD have a Firewall Appliance, i.e.: Watch Guard Firebox or something similar installed.
What is the FIRST connection to your T-1? Small Bus Server, Proxy Server, Smoothwall PC or what? I'm assuming you have more than one PC connected to this T-1.
Bottom Line, this Router will NOT work for what your trying to do.
Good Luck

I haven't worked with this router, but there is no technical reason why the router can't be used in this configuration, though it is a little more complex than using a WAP or connecting the router directly to a broadband modem. What you'll end up doing is creating a subnet off of the office's network.
You'll first need to connect a network drop from the office's network to the router's INTERNET port. This is the port the router will use as its outbound port. After you do that try running the wizard again, it should be able to create an internet connection.
By default the router will give all pcs connected to its internal ports (including any wireless connections) a priivate IP address. This may or may not be fine depending on how you what to configure your network.
BTW - I have done basically the same config using a neatgear wireless router. I have it hung off my network and use it as a wireless access point. Also, you'll want to make sure you enable encryption on your wireless connection.

I am trying to set up Linksys Wireless Router, Model No. WRT54G.
My son bought a laptop to take to college and we need to set it up
with my desktop using the wireless router.
I've followed the directions given by Linksys....have internet usage
on my desktop, but the laptop tells me I am not able to connect to
the Router.
Also says to check it the Ethernet adapter is working. is that adaptor
inside the new laptop or is it something that would be added to the
outside of the laptop?
Please help.......MsMary
