Laptop Wont Turn On

I have an IBM thinkpad T-40 with a pentium M processor. Less than a year old. 2 nights ago it was running then it was picked up abruptly, after a drink was spilt nearby. I dont think any drink got in it (if so it was only on the bottom of the case), but the computer went blank at that point.

Since then it will not turn on, even with ac power. I am fearing the worst... something shorted out. I'm going to try a few things tomorrow, replace cmos battery, remove and replace main battery, but apart from that I'm not to sure what to do. If it has shorted out will there be evidence of it on the motherboard? Should I pull it out and have a look?

You're help would be very much appreciated.

Lisa

It doesn't work regardless of wether power supply is plugged in or not. No lights come on or anything. Unfortunately it has no warranty with it, so I have no choice but to crack it open and give it my best shot. I'm desperately hoping the motherboard hasnt been fried. If so, can I just replace the motherboard, or is it more likely I've fried everything and it is just better to let go....

Thanks,

Lisa

Hmmmm....those come standard with a 3-year warranty. But I guess that doesn't apply to those that 'fall off the truck'

They're built like a tank. It'd likely take a good fall to hurt one, so I think the first thing to check is connections - perhaps something simply came unplugged. More likely than a burnt/shorted part.

If it were me I'd just crack the thing open and let it sit for a day or so. Just kinda let things dry out if anything in fact did get wet. Then just put it back together and boot it see how it goes. You sure did go the extreem way for water cooling ehh?
