Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes.....I'm having problems with my ISP. I use Mediaone, or as it is now known AT and T Broadband. Anyway, I can open up any web page, then open up a few more from that page, then about every fourth time I go to open up another page, it takes ages to load. It is then okay for a while, but then I get the same problem!! Even using this forum, I have the same problem, can anyone suggest what I might be able to do, to stop this happening? It isn't like I have anything else running, that might cause this, and it has only started happening recently.
Any help will be muchly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Dave.

Ironside, I have IE 5.5, I think it was supposed to be the final version!!! I have had this version pretty much since it first came out, and had no problems like I've mentioned, up until a few days before I went on vacation. I did think that after coming back home and booting up the computer again (after being shut down for a week), things would be okay, but obviously not, and it does get a bit frustrating!!!

just a question
when was the last time you defraged your hard drive,
did add any new plug ins or programs when this started to happen.

Thanks Ironside.
I did run a scan disk and defrag' just before going away.
Yesterday I downloaded the latest Netscape version, but haven't yet installed it. The problem started before that though, so I don't think that is the cause. Other than that, I haven't installed anything else, to find this problem occurring!!!

It sounds like you need to empty out your internet cache (Temproary Internet Files) and/or increase the size allowed for it.

Tools/internet options - Temporary internet files - "Delete Files" then "settings" how many MB have you allowed?

Thanks Smurfy.
I do clear out all the temp files pretty much every day, and every now and again I clean out the cookies too.
This whole thing is beginning to get frustrating! You know how it is, everything runs hunk dory for so long, then something comes along and messes up the whole works. just like a car I guess, they are great until something is wrong!!

well how about you run repair on your IE and see if it finds any problems.
If you dont know where it is its in control panel under add and remove software then click on IE 5.5 this will open a menu that willask what do you what to do,click on repair then let it run.

Thank you Ironside, I tried the repair bit, but was told it could not be repaired! In the details it reads....
Version 5.0.0.3715 of file SCRRUN.DLL exists, but the version needs to be greater than 5.1.0.4615
Should I try re-installing IE 5, and if so, would this mean having to un install the version I now have?
Dave.

yep thats what it means dave time to uninstall I really hate that they give you a option to repair then it dont work, but ive been there with the repair Im running 5.5 and its been ok,the first time i installed it it kept crashing I almost didnt try again.
personally i like to reformat why i start having problems, but like i said thats a personal thing with me.
So uninstall it and reinstall it dave and good luck,is media one cable i hope so because as large as ie5.5 is you need it.

Well I have restored the browser back to ( I guess) the previous version I had. I think it is still IE 5, but just not the newest version. I'm now going to run C Net's catch up, and see if that brings in a "newer" version!!
Dave.
PS. Thanks Irons, for all the help.

Okay, I went into the Windows update, and updated everything that was needed. But everything is still just as bad as what I mentioned in my first post on this subject!!!
Sooo, could it possibly be and ISP problem now, or do you think it is still a browser problem?
Dave.
