I have MemTurbo running and I've upgraded to the new version.....it has a "scrub ram" option....a different option from recovering ram. Well, when I choose scrub ram, it freezes up my computer. Actually, sometimes it freezes up when it's trying to recover ram when another program is also trying to do something. I need the memturbo because I use Adobe Photoshop, Image Ready, and Illustrator....they're big memory hogs....Any ideas what to do about it?

how about first closing all other applications that dont need to be running then check to make sure its all closed through ctrl alt & delete, then run memturbo
and what ever graphics programs you what this way you will be able to use more ram then before.
you dont need all that other stuff running in the back ground.

Well, that defeats the purpose of having it....the whole idea is to be able to recover ram while you're working. I do turn my Zone Alarm off, because I thought that was the problem.....but, it still does it even with that off.

i think your missing the point when ever you work with programs that eat a lot of memory you should always close any applications that dont need to be running, then your memory program will recover what your using for your graphics.

Ram is cheap right now Kimmy you may want to add some. Just a thought... people who do a lot of graphic work usually setup a *profile* that maximizes their resources. I have had no luck with any of these so called helper apps (they use more resources than they save). Now there are some window tweaks that will use your memory in a better way... just say the word and I will point you in that direction.

lmao....Let me see, Tram.... is 256 mb of ram enough? That's what I have....The Adobe graphics programs just use it all up...lol :O)

Hey Irons....you know how dense I am! lol I like to have both programs open at the same time, sometimes...it's necessary for what I'm doing, ya know? and I don't always run out of ram....only on occasion....weird, huh? :O)

Ok let me see if i can explain it better then
what im talking about kimmy is closing anything not related to your graphics programs that way it will quit eating your ram
like icq dont need to be open and outlook express and microsoft messinger these programs are known ram eaters, plus there is a bunch of background programs running that you could close while your working with your graphics programs.
Ny doing a ctrl alt and delete you should be able to see whats running and close them down.
other then that if your still having any problems with ram, then you need to buy a mac
ask buzz i think he will agree with me on this.

scrub ram

Hey Kimmy,

I haven't used MemTurbo because I agree with Tram I find it hard to believe that ANY program that claims to free memory can be worth it's salt when it occupies memory you'd otherwise have free.

But, the scrub ram option I would guess as being a major attempt by the program to wipe as much fragmented RAM as it can. The fact that it is crashing your computer or other programs is most likely due to the fact that the program is having problems differentiating between what memory is fragmented and what is actually needed to be there and is thus wiping what it shouldn't do.

That option I would suggest only ever using when ALL your programs are closed.

There will be another option which will less vigorously reclaim memory which you should use.

But Photoshop is a professional program. Even on 256MB it can easily consume all you have. I would strongly suggest cleaning your clipboard regularly which I believe is one of the options on that program. The clipboard is where all your graphics go when they are CUT or COPIED when being pasted somewhere else.

Often huge amounts of memory are consumed on your clipboard and people just forget they're there.

Hey Mishy....thanks...I forgot, you've told me all this before..hehe. Slap my hand.

Can you elaborate on the clipboard thing you're talking about? Tell me exactly how to do that?

Kimmy,

I don't have Photoshop but I'm sure there will be an option somewhere to clear your clipboard.

Otherwise have a look in Start/Programs/Accessories and see if you have the clipboard utility installed of your Win98 CD. You can clear it through that too http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hello Dere Kimmygem

I suspect that the real problem is that you are running out of resources - not RAM. Go to the infinisource site and find the article on system resources.

I also suggest that you run Msconfig after a restart and before starting anything else and see what programs you are loading at startup. The only things you really need are systray, explorer and regscan.

I'm sorry but I am unable to point you to the infinisource article as I have lost the bookmark and I'm too beat at the moment to go hunting http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

thanks y'all. I've already taken everything out of start up that I possibly can. I'm doing a defrag before I go to bed and I've done a scan disc also....I got a message that said that it couldn't defrag because of a problem and it said to run scan disc....so, I did....hehe. I'll let y'all know what happens....
